Become a Volunteer!

We need YOU.

Who can become a volunteer?

If you are interested in volunteering for SAPT Hellas, please tell us the way you think you could contribute. We are always in need of volunteers for our visits to schools or institutions but also for general administrative support, such as translations in English, working from your computer and, of course, helping with your physical presence in the events we organize or participate in, such as our Christmas/Easter bazaars or speeches and lobbying for animal welfare.

What do I need to do?

If your wish to help in our visits, you must free your schedule on Wednesday mornings (sometimes Friday mornings too), Also, sometimes our volunteers’ time is necessary on Saturdays or Sundays, for special events). As a Candidate for the General Support team you are expected to attend several weekly visits – at least 20 in a row, if possible- so you can fully understand our work. Then the time will have come that you and us together will decide whether you wish/are eligible to be a part of the team. If yes, you will be officially enrolled as a General Support Volunteer for SAPT Hellas, wear our yellow t-shirt and :

  • be evaluated together with your mixed-breed dog by the Volunteer Dog Training Instructor of the team, follow free-of-charge dog classes and start participating in school visits, then maybe in pet-therapy visits for the disabled. If you don’t have a dog, we will together explore the possibility of finding a suitable mixed-breed dog for you to adopt and train along with him so you can get on board of the team,

  • remain in the General Support Team, either because your lifestyle does not allow you to offer sufficient care and training to a dog (*).

(*) While we need help, we are adamant about growing our team very carefully. If after you attend one visit you find yourself appreciating our work, you should keep on coming with us every week. This however, does not mean that after 20 visits you will necessarily join the Dog Handlers Team (with your dog or a dog that you would consider adopting). Why? Because, although you might make a wonderful addition to our general support team, a dog might not feel comfortable or “protected” enough by your side and, the good psychological state of the dogs is of utmost importance in what we do!

Ok, I'm in, where do I start?
